A Patriarchal Blessing under the hand of James M. Works on the head of John Bartholomew Son of Joseph and Polly Benson Bartholomew, born September 11, 1845, Mackinaw, Mclean County, Illinois U.S.A. Given at Fayette, Sanpete County, Utah June 4th 1881

Brother John having authority giving me to act as a patriarch in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I lay my hand upon thy head at this time to seal a Patriarchal blessing upon thee that shall be a source of comfort and consolation unto thee in the future for thou art one that was called and ordained and set apart in the mansions of thy Father and thy Mother in paradise to come upon the earth in this last dispensation and take an active part in building up the Church and kingdom of God in this the evening of time and altho in the days [of] thy humiliation thy judgment was taken from thee yet the Lord has been mindful of thee and has given thee grace and strength according to thy day for thou hast been called to pass through many of the trials and privations of life that the Saints have had to pass throu in the days of thy youth in redeeming this land from its harshness and sterility and causing the wilderness to become a fruitful field and thou hast been deprived of all thy rights, and privileges as an American Citizen because the wicked rule and the people mourn, but if thou wilt be faithful, thou shalt be blessed in thy labors both temporally and spiritually thou shalt be blessed in thy calling whereunto thou art called in the holy priesthood and thou shalt be blessed in thy labors in the ministry in the own due time of the Lord for thou shalt become a messenger of life and salvation to the nations of the earth and thy tongue shall become like the pen of a ready writer and thou shalt have power to preach teach and expound the scriptures and exhort the saints to faithfulness and diligence in keeping the commandments of God and thou shalt commune with holy angels and with spirits of Just men made perfect, and with the assembly of the Church of the firstborn and thou shalt come up as a savior upon Mount Zion and stand in holy places while the judgments of God go forth unto victory and the way is prepared for Zion to be redeemed and built up according to the Order of heaven thou art of the seed of Joseph through the loins of Ephraim and thou shalt have the blessing of the new and everlasting covenant sealed upon thy head through that lineage. These blessing I seal upon thy head and seal thee up to thrones, kingdoms, principalities and powers at the head of thy Posterity upon conditions of thy faithfulness in the name of Jesus our redeemer. Even so amen.
